2013 Golden Rose Named As Spring Target For Overreach

August 1st, 2013

The Group 1 Golden Rose is due to run at Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday September 14, 2013.

The 2013 Golden Rose will be run under set weight conditions and is open to three-year-old horses only.

The race takes place over a distance of 1,400 metres and is worth a whopping $1 million in prize money.

Running as part of Golden Rose Day, it shares it’s program with the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes, Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes and Group 3 Sheraco Stakes.

Golden Slipper winner Overreach is due to run in the 2013 Golden Rose in what will be her first start for the spring racing carnival.

Overreach has won three of her five race starts and has earned more than $2.34 million in prize money during her horse racing career.

The Exceed And Excel filly’s most recent start resulted in a third placing behind Guelph in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick on April 13, 2013, and she will be looking to go two spots better when she runs in the 2013 Golden Rose.

Owner-breeder, George Altomonte, is confident that Overreach will be back to her best by the time the 2013 Golden Rose rolls around in September.

“She’s put on 40kg and looks great,” Altomonte told Sky Sports radio.

Overreach is already the 2013 Golden Rose favourite in online betting markets and will be likely trialled at Randwick Racecourse tomorrow morning.
