Lightly raced juvenile Bold Circle is gearing up for their new season return with trainer David Payne confirming their 2014 Golden Rose aim this spring.

Bernardini colt Bold Circle, purchased as a yearling for $100,000 from last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sales, turns three next week and has had just the two career runs to date.

On debut they ran third beaten just under two lengths by Law in the Listed NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick last October.

From there they went on to run at their home track at Rosehill Gardens and beat home Sheer Style in a two-year-olds race over 1100m.

The form of that race held up later on too as third placegetter Unencumbered, who was three quarters of a length off Bold Circle, went on to win their next four starts including the $2 million Magic Millions Classic in Queensland.

They haven’t been seen since that October 26 win but Payne nearly has them ready to race again this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

There are a couple of first-up options the local horseman is looking at for their return naming the two most likely as the $100,000 Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 9 or the $125,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) the following Saturday at Rosehill.

“He will most probably run in the San Domenico or the Rosebud first-up,” Payne told AAP.

“I’m not going to trial him, he will go straight to the races.”

Their major aim then is of course the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 13.

Futures Golden Rose betting markets at are currently led by Blue Diamond Stakes winning filly Earthquake ($6) and her last start conqueror in the Golden Slipper Mossfun ($7).

Bold Circle meanwhile is one of a host of hopefuls paying $26 to score an upset Golden Rose result this spring.
