July 25th, 2014

A standout performer over major two-year-old events through the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, trainer Gerald Ryan has confirmed a barrier trial in early August will decide what path will be taken with Peggy Jean through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Finishing outside the places just once in six starts over her maiden racing preparation, Peggy Jean more than stamped her claims as one to watch over the major three-year-old events through spring when breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) most notably on April 12th.

A chance to travel to Victoria for the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) in October, Ryan told Racing Ahead the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at her home track of Rosehill Gardens on September 13th is likely to figure as the first major target for the Myboycharlie filly.

“She is stronger,” Ryan said.

“She will probably kick-off in either The Run To The Rose or the second race of the Princess Series.

“Then she will either stay in the Princess Series or go to the Golden Rose; we will decide probably after she trials on the 18th.

“At this stage I don’t think she will run in the Silver Shadow and it will either be The Run To The Rose or the next 1200 metre fillies race on the first Saturday in September.”

Debuting for second in the 2014 ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (1000m) on January 8th, Peggy Jean beat a talented field that included Boomwaa to the line in the Inglis Classic (1200m) less-than two weeks later to forward her name as a legitimate two-year-old competitor.

Displaying a keen turn of foot to finish second to Bring Me The Maid in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), the filly out of Lady Of Love was impressive when winning the Sires’ Produce, however had clearly tired when fifth in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) a fortnight later, immediately returning to the paddock.

Yet to be confirmed for any event, Peggy Jean is currently available at generous $17 odds for success in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes with leading online bookie is currently offering all new punters the chance to claim a bonus bet of up to $250, just for signing up!
