Berry Confident of Golden Rose Progression for Nayeli

August 7th, 2014

A notable performer over her maiden racing preparation through the Autumn Racing Carnival, jockey Tommy Berry is confident a positive first-up performance in this weekend’s Listed The Rosebud (1200m) will translate into bigger things for Nayeli this preparation.

Beginning her racing career in style, Nayeli has so-far contested just three competitive starts and returned to the paddock after beating just a single runner home in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd

Performing well in two barrier trials over the last fortnight, Berry said he was delighted to have picked up the ride on the More Than Ready filly for her spring preparation and is expecting a polished first-up performance in The Rosebud.

“She is a lovely filly,” Berry told Sky Racing HQ.

“She was a very leggy filly last preparation and we always thought that she would improve after a break and she has definitely come back a lot stronger.

“She looks like she will get over a bit of a trip and she is very exciting.

“She showed that she has her fair share of ability last preparation, but she wasn’t a natural two-year-old, she just had that ability shine through.

“We are really looking forward to her this preparation and I think that she is heading towards the Golden Rose, which is a race that she will be very hard to beat in.”

Charging home to beat a talented field which included subsequent Group 1 champion Peggy Jean in the ATC Membership On Sale Maiden (1000m) on debut on January 8th, Nayeli more than staked her claims as one to watch over the entire 2014 racing calendar when winning the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) by close to three lengths on February 1st.

Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on this weekend’s Listed Rosebud, for which Nayeli is available at odds of $3.10 for success.

Heading towards the Golden Rose, Nayeli is currently available at generous odds of $15 for success in the September 13th feature with Ladbrokes.com.au.
