15 Confirmed for 2014 Golden Rose

September 8th, 2014

A less-than capacity final field of 15 has been confirmed for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, highlighted by some of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival’s most exciting three-year-old racing prospects.

A notable performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, trainer Peter Moody has confirmed Bring Me The Maid in the final field for the 2014 Golden Rose.

Owned by the syndicate of Wylie Dalziel and the late, great Roy Higgins, Bring Me The Maid debuted to racing in exceptional form in March; winning the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) first-up before finishing a luckless third when blocked for a run in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) on March 14th.

Charging home to secure a particularly impressive victory in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 29th, the Sebring filly ran on to finish an impressive third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th before returning to the spelling paddock.

Returning to the races for a comfortable victory in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 23rd, Moody is confident the 2014 Golden Rose provides the ideal distance and conditions for Bring Me The Maid to secure a maiden Group 1 victory.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 Golden Rose is exciting Bart and James Cummings-trained colt Hallowed Crown.

Stamping his claims as one to watch with a near-two length victory in the TAB Early Quaddie Maiden (1150m) on March 26th, Hallowed Crown quickly continued to announce his presence to the racing community when overcoming an early check to win the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) with ease on April 12th.

Returning to the races with another comfortable win in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) on August 30th, James Cummings last week revealed the team are thrilled with the continually building form and class of the Street Sense colt and are confident of securing Saturday’s feature race.

Touted as a leading chance for success in the 2014 Golden Rose from his maiden race start in January, Team Hawkes have this morning confirmed Nostradamus will take his place at Rosehill Gardens this weekend.

Finishing fourth in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) and credible seventh in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd before returning to the paddock, the Medaglia D’Oro colt charged home to win the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) by a length on August 16th, but was unable to match the late pace when a disappointing seventh in the Run To The Rose last time out.

Interestingly figuring as the only runner to have already claiming a Group 1 title confirmed for the 2014 Golden Rose, Almalad was particularly disappointing when beating a solitary runner home in the Run To The Rose first-up, but should be far better for the competitive run according to trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Undefeated prior to his racing return, the Al Maher gelding won the Nuturf Plate (1000m) in his racing debut in December; returning this year for back-to-back wins in the TAB Early Quaddie Plate (1200m) on May 24th and Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) on June 7th.

Several notable exclusions from the final field of the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes include the likes of Brazen Beau, who will instead contest the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on Saturday, Chris Waller-trained Law, who is suffering from a high temperature and last-star winner Panzer Division, who has been confirmed for a different course through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

A barrier draw for the 2014 Golden Rose is due to be released later this morning (Tuesday, September 9th).
