Press Report to Push Forward in 2014 Golden Rose

September 11th, 2014

Currently featuring at the longest odds to the take out the Rosehill Gardens feature this weekend, trainer Lee Curtis has revealed he will inform young jockey Winona Costin to take up a forward position in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).

So-far claiming one win and two minor places from just seven competitive starts, Press Report finished at the tail of the field in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) last time out on August 23rd; unable to handle the rain-soaked conditions.

Allocated the ideal barrier 4 for the Golden Rose, Curtis said he is hoping the rain stays away from Rosehill in the days leading up to the weekend, and will be confident of a successful run should that happen.

“It will be pretty similar to how she rode her when she won on her,” Curtis told Sky Racing HQ.

“Just be on the pace there, I’m not going to say things like you are going to be here and he is going to be there because what happens once they jump who knows.

“Ideally I am sure that Winona would want to be sitting fifth or sixth there somewhere and just having a bit of a rest for a while.

“I think a Rosehill seven may be a hell of a lot different to a Randwick nine and with the rain it has probably done track a favour.

“We had a bit of rain yesterday morning, but it was a beautiful day and there is a breeze and it is sunny today.

“If we didn’t get any more rain we could get into the six range.”

Debuting with a strong run for second behind Memorial in the Blackwoods APP Industries Plate (1100m) in November, Press Report returned to racing in notable form this year; finishing second in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) first-up and fourth in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) most notably.

Winning a minor over 1300m prior to the Silver Shadow Stakes, the Written Tycoon filly will have to find peak condition if to overcome the classy Golden Rose field.
