Inner Circle On Trial for 2015 Golden Rose

July 17th, 2015

Trainer John O’Shea has revealed a berth in the 2015 Golden Rose (1400m) is on offer for rising three-year-old Inner Circle, should form inclusive of Saturday’s Bob Ingham Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens warrant progression.

Inner Circle has appeared on course competitively only three times since debuting earlier this year, but has not been seen at the races since failing to handle the heavy conditions and late pace in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 28th.

Pleased with the work produced by the son of Street Cry in the lead-up to his racing return, O’Shea revealed to Racing Ahead that he is yet to have Inner Circle at peak condition and he will not run this weekend should the track experience any rain.

“He’s in on Saturday, has had a couple of trials and has grown a bit,” O’Shea said.

“We’re just waiting on the weather. It’s been an issue in Sydney all winter.

“I haven’t got him wound-up, so if you’re looking at having something on him on Saturday he would be vulnerable because he’s got to get through to mid-September.”

The conditions of the 2015 Golden Rose Stakes should play directly into the strengths of Inner Circle and O’Shea confirmed he will definitely take his place in the early feature race should pending results warrant inclusion.

“We got him going early because he probably needs to just season himself up if he’s going to effective in a Golden Rose but he won’t run if it’s heavy,” he said.

“He’s grown, he’s furnished nicely and he’s much more effective than he was in autumn, and he was still competitive then.”

Performing well in Sydney barrier trials prior to his competitive debut, Inner Circle charged home to win the talent-rich Mossman @ Vinery Plate (1100m) first-up on February 25th; progressing to a credible fourth in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) in his only other start prior to The Schweppervescence.
