2015 Golden Rose Likely for Blueberry Hill

July 22nd, 2015

Blueberry Hill was arguably the most consistent two-year-old through the recent Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, and trainer Liam Birchley has revealed he is considering an early spring campaign geared towards the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) with the classy filly.

The flying daughter of Myboycharlie more than stamped her claims as one to watch through her maiden racing campaign; posting an impressive three wins and two second place finishes through only six competitive appearances so far.

Birchley was understandably thrilled by the results posted and class displayed by the rising three-year-old in her native Queensland but believes there is still a question mark over her abilities over a mile; meaning races like the 2015 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens on September 10th will likely figure as ideal.

“I still haven’t decided exactly which way to go with her,” Birchley said.

“But I am not convinced she is a 1600 metre horse at this stage of her career. I will see how she comes along first.

“One option is the Golden Rose. It is at 1400 metres which should suit her as an early season three-year-old.”

Blueberry Hill debuted for an impressive win in the Centenary Classic Mercedes Benz Plate (1050m) on February 28th before repeating the dose, this time by close to four lengths in the J Oliver & B McFarlane Handicap (1200m) on April 5th.

Unlucky not to make a winning transition to black type racing when blocked for a run late and second in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Plate (1200m) on April 25th, Blueberry Hill responded in the best way possible when charging home to take out the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben a fortnight later.

Unfortunate to be caught wide during the running of the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) on May 23rd, the filly out of Perkipsey produced another strong effort to finish a close second, but failed to match the late pace and perhaps get the distance when sixth in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) a fortnight later.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best early 2015 Golden Rose Stakes odds, for which Blueberry Hill can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $51 for success.
