2015 Golden Rose Stakes for Press Statement

August 3rd, 2015

Press Statement has reportedly taken well to his time away from racing and will be set for a tilt at the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens this time in, according to trainer Chris Waller.

Press Statement more than stamped his claims as one to watch over a standout and debut two-year-old campaign through late autumn and winter this year, highlighted by a commanding win in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben last time out on June 6th.

Having taken huge benefit from his time in the Queensland sun prior to his recent return to work, Waller is thrilled with the condition of the Hinchinbrook colt and is confident he will be suited to the conditions of the 2015 Golden Rose Stakes.

“One of their weeks (in Queensland) is equal to two of ours,” Waller told AAP.

“He has put on weight and is very well.

“The plan is to go to the Run To The Rose two weeks before the Golden Rose.

“The only problem is that as a Group One winner he gets a four kilo penalty and has to carry 60 kilograms.

“But there’s not another suitable race for him leading into the Golden Rose.”

Trialling well in Sydney prior to his competitive debut, Press Statement jumped from the gates well as a $21 chance in the TAB Place Multi (1100m) on April 29th; receiving ideal run in transit before producing a strong turn of foot to hit the line close to two lengths in the clear of his closest rivals.

Repeating the dose in a Rosehill minor over 1350m on May 30th, Press Statement was forced to overcome an early check but still hit the line half a length ahead of Shards.

Yet to confirm a specific path for the three-year-old beyond the 2015 Golden Rose, Waller revealed he may be given a brief freshen-up before returning to the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in early November.

“We’ve had success in the Coolmore Stud Stakes for the past two years so I think that’s where he will probably go,” he said.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best early odds on the 2015 Golden Rose, for which Press Statement can be taken at a quote of $11 for success; figuring as sole occupant of the fourth line of betting.
