Speak Fondly has returned to racing in scintillating form this season, and trainer Gai Waterhouse has revealed the talented filly will likely be partnered by the Hong Kong-based Brett Prebble in Saturday’s featured Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Speak Fondly has posted three wins and two minors through her six career starts so far and is yet to taste anything but success this time in, having taking out each of the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) with complete ease.

Waterhouse has been understandably thrilled with the results posted and form displayed by the Northern Meteor filly this time, Waterhouse is confident the addition of Prebble to the saddle for the 2015 Golden Rose on Saturday means Speak Fondly is the horse to beat in the feature race.

Kerrin (McEvoy) has done a brilliant job with her and we’re lucky that Brett wants to come and ride the filly as he’s a suitable replacement bit he’s awaiting the approval of the (Hong Kong) Jockey Club,” Waterhouse told The Daily Telegraph.

“She’s made that weight-for-age transition you need to see when they come off their two-year-old season and turn three.

“She’s a big, strong filly now; very much a different horse to the one we saw last season.

“Brett is a very strong rider and she will hold her own in the Golden Rose against the boys, don’t worry about that.”

Waterhouse was particularly impressed by Speak Fondly’s performance for a three length win in the Furious Stakes over the weekend and is confident she will line up for the 2015 Golden Rose a picture of health.

“Once she got that gap, it was game over and she really didn’t do much more than what I’d ask of her in trackwork,” Waterhouse said.

“She’s the horse to beat in the Golden Rose. She’s had two runs back from a spell, won them both effortlessly and now steps up to 1400m a very fit horse.”

The 2105 Golden Rose barrier draw will be completed on Wednesday.
