Omei Sword returned to racing for a dominant black type win and could very well receive the run of the race in the Rosehill Gardens feature, after drawing into the 2016 Golden Rose field in the ideal barrier 3.

Debuting to racing for a comfortable win in a Rosehill minor over 1100m in February, Omei Sword made a competitive transition to black type company when second to Calliope in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), but had clearly had enough by the time she ran ninth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Having beaten a classy field to the line in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up a fortnight ago, the daughter of High Chaparral will only carry improvement into the Golden Rose and will carry only 54.5kgs as a filly.

Trainer Chris Waller will launch a two-pronged attack after also confirming Nikitas (barrier 8) in the Golden Rose field.

John O’Shea saddled Exosphere to success in the Group 1 feature last year and will be offered two good chances of defending the crown for Godolphin on Saturday, after confirming both Astern and Impending in the Golden Rose Stakes field.

Undoubtedly Godolphin’s best chance in the Golden Rose field, Astern returned to racing in autumn for success in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) but when amiss when eleventh in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).

Returning to the paddock after dead-heating the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1200m) with El Divino during The Championships, the Medaglia D’Oro colt savaged the line for success in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) a fortnight ago but will require luck in running on Saturday from barrier 12.

Impending debuted to racing for success in the Pluck @ Vinery Handicap (1100m) on April 23rd, before running third in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Plate (1200m) on the Gold Coast.

Sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run for third in the Run To The Rose, in which he received virtually no luck, the Lonhro colt will leave from barrier 2 with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

One of two for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott in the Golden Rose field, alongside stable mate Thronum, El Divino returned to racing for fourth in the Run To The Rose and has the notable advantage of being partnered by Hugh Bowman on Saturday.

A half-brother to champion mare Winx, El Divino won a Gosford minor by six lengths on debut before his dead-heat with Astern on Day 1 of The Championships.

Queensland raiders Oink (barrier 11), Chamalu (barrier 1) and O’reilly Cyrus (barrier 14) will all make the trip to Sydney this weekend after being confirmed in the 2016 Golden Rose field.
