El Divino Primed for 2016 Golden Rose

September 8th, 2016

Co-trainer Adrian Bott is confident that El Divino will prove extremely tough to beat when he lines up for the featured Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

El Divino more than stamped himself as a colt to follow through a brief but explosive debut preparation in autumn, but the colt could only manage fourth when fading late in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m) first-up a fortnight ago.

Bott told AAP that the horse has thrived since his competitive return and he expects that he will figure as a tough prospect for his opponents to run down in the Golden Rose 2016 on Saturday, on what is likely-to-be a firm racing surface.

“We certainly haven’t lost any confidence in the horse from his last start,” Bott said.

“It was a very good run in fairness to the horse.

“He stuck on well and gives every indication that he’ll run out a really strong 1400 metres.

“He’s a horse with such a brilliant turn of foot and those horses you like to see them be able to use those assets on top of the ground.”

A half-brother to champion mare Winx, El Divino immediately justified the hype that surrounded his competitive debut when he delivered a Gosford field a six length defeat on March 17th this year.

Making a successful transition to black type company in only his second career appearance, the Snitzel colt mustered a scintillating turn of foot to finish the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1200m) in a dead-heat with Golden Rose favourite Astern.

Having immediately returned to the paddock, jockey Hugh Bowman settled El Divino on pace in the Run To The Rose first-up, El Divino still managed fourth despite weakening late; beating a number of his Golden Rose counterparts to the line.

El Divino is drawn ideally from a dream run in transit from gate 4 in the Golden Rose, and will again be partnered by leading hoop Bowman.
