2017 Golden Rose Field & Barrier Draw

September 19th, 2017

A smart field of fourteen has been confirmed for Saturday’s 2017 Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s best three-year-olds.

Boom colt Menari has dominated the tradition lead-up to Saturday’s feature race, but require some early luck after drawing into the 2017 Golden Rose Stakes field in barrier 11.

Menari has shown plenty of ability through his short but impressive racing career so far, but has undoubtedly gone to another level as a three-year-old and remains the horse to beat in the Golden Rose field.

Storming home to beat Siege Of Quebec on the line in the Listed The Rosebud (1100m) first-up, the Snitzel colt dominated a classy field in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m) a fortnight ago and will loom at the top of the straight at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trainer Gerald Ryan has also confirmed Trapeze Artist in the 2017 Golden Rose Stakes field, who has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier.

Pariah has also performed exceptionally this time in, but is another horse that will require early luck after drawing into the Golden Rose field in barrier 12.

The Redoute’s Choice colt immediately stamped himself as one to watch upon debuting as a two-year-old and most notably ran a close second behind Catchy in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in February.

Trialling well behind Winx in the lead-up to his spring campaign, Pariah delivered a handy field a comfortable defeat in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) first-up, in what was his only other start prior to the Run To The Rose.

Trainers Peter & Paul Snowden will launch a multi-pronged attack in the feature race after also confirming Dracarys (barrier 1) and Assimilate in the Golden Rose field.

Dracarys has posted two wins and a minor through his four career starts so far and was last seen savaging the line for a smart win in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) on August 19th.

Assimilate was a smart winner of a pair of Sydney minor sprints upon debuting in July and was unlucky not to beat Addictive Nature on the line in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) last time out on August 26th.

Only two fillies have been confirmed in the 2017 Golden Rose field and both Formality (barrier 13) and Champagne Cuddles (barrier 8) are live chances.

Formality was a strong and consistent performer as a two-year-old; winning the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) and finishing in the minors in both the Blue Diamond Stakes and Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) most notably.

Resuming this time for a tough win in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 19th, the daughter of Fastnet Rock repeated that effort and result in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) on September 2nd.

Champagne Cuddles has gone extremely close without winning this time in, but will relish the 1400m of the Golden Rose and favourable treatment in the weights as a filly.

Third in the Silver Shadow Stakes first-up after flying home late, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt has since finished second in the Furious Stakes and the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m).
